Biography

Michelle "Mi Mi" A. Sherwin was born in East London on 27th November 1981. She started writing songs and poetry around the age of 8. She was born into a 'working class' family, her Father a Foreman/Forklift operator and her Mother an 'Office Bod'. Mi Mi has two older brothers. Mi Mi was given her nickname when she was 13 years old, when her brother's girlfriend's daughter couldn't say Michelle - So... Mariah, you can eat your hat!! Mi Mi says, "Music is a saviour, a lover, a friend... Music touches on every raw emotion. It can be a diary for some people... Music helps build memories and sometimes builds hope for the future through lyrics or a soothing melody. Music has saved me many times in one way or another. I feel sorry for those people that I've met who really don't know how to 'feel' music. Life must all be in black and white to them. So simple... and yet, we all know life isn't simple." Although she has extremely varied taste, Mi Mi likes to point out that her main influences are "absolute legends" - Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Roy Orbison and Marc Bolan... and more recent addition, Amy Winehouse. Mi Mi enjoys all genres of music and likes people to know that she has an ear and appreciation for music in all forms. However, it is clear that from rock 'n' roll through to ska and reggae (and even classical), Mi Mi is a glutton for "Sweet Soul Music".
